LET’S BE POLITICALLY INCORRECT

A friend of mine recently expressed concerns about making comments or speaking out because of political correctness. Since then I have introduced the subject in various conversations and found that many people are apprehensive about making a statement because of fear that it may not be politically correct. One person stated that it was risky to make a statement because everybody has to be politically correct. What I want to know is, who says we have to be politically correct? I see examples everywhere of people using political correctness as leverage to get whatever it is that they happen to want at the time but I don’t see anything that says I have to be politically correct. To those who claim that I offended them by using the wrong words I say, “Get over it!” I have the same right of free speech that they have. The words of an old song come to mind that said, “They say I drink whiskey, well my money’s my own and them that don’t like me can leave me alone.” If someone doesn’t like what I say, they don’t have to listen to me and they don’t have to like me but I have every right to say it as long as I am not threatening them or slandering them. If I want to tell someone, “Get off your butt and go get a job,” or, “If you don’t like it here, go back where you came from,” then that is exactly what I will tell them. Changing the name of a person or thing does not change the person or thing. If a person or group of people are ashamed of what they are or what they have done then they need to work on changing what they are or what their reputation has become. Changing their name and complaining may subdue open criticism but opinions won’t change and neither will private comments. If a person is a member of a group that is doing illegal or hurtful things then the person should either be outspoken in condemning the group and make every effort to change the group or, if, out of fear or other reasons, they have no influence in the group they should disengage themselves from the group rather than defending the group. Or, at the very least, not try to pretend that the group has done nothing wrong and tell me that I am not politically correct if I criticize the group.The idea that all of us are created equal is a nice thought but it is a myth. We definitely are not all created equal and to pretend that we are is wasteful and deceptive. I know that there are others who are smarter than I, stronger than I and more agile than I and I don’t try to pretend otherwise. I am not ashamed of the fact nor do I resent it. That is simply how it is and life goes on. If I give every task my best possible effort, then I can hold my head up and not ask that anyone feel sorry for me or pretend that they haven’t noticed. I think that for someone to tell me I have done a great job when I obviously haven’t is an insult to my intelligence. This is how it is and I don’t believe that anyone should be given an advancement or promotion that they have not truly earned. For one reason, that can lead them to believe that there is no need for them to try to improve. It may also lead them to seeking positions that they are incapable of handling.

Let’s forget about political correctness and go back to telling it like it is. Maybe some will be insulted but maybe they will be inspired to making improvements rather than blaming others for their shortcomings.
Go ahead and blast me with your comments. I look forward to hearing from those with a different point of view and I’m sure there are lots of them.

On February 4th, 2013, Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, addressed the Duma, (Russian Parliament), and gave a speech about the tensions with minorities in Russia:

“In Russia live Russians. Any minority, from anywhere, if it wants to live in Russia, to work and eat in Russia, should speak Russian, and should respect the Russian laws. If they prefer Sharia Law, then we advise them to go to those places where that’s the state law. Russia does not need minorities. Minorities need Russia, and we will not grant them special privileges, or try to change our laws to fit their desires, no matter how loud they yell ‘discrimination’. We better learn from the suicides of America, England, Holland and France, if we are to survive as a nation. The Russian customs and traditions are not compatible with the lack of culture or the primitive ways of most minorities. When this honorable legislative body thinks of creating new laws, it should have in mind the national interest first, observing that the minorities are not Russians.

The politicians in the Duma gave Putin a standing ovation for five minutes.

I recently read a dissertation by a young man who was asserting his conviction that we have a right to medical care. My first impulse was to respond to him with all my objections but, after a lot of thought, I decided that he is entirely right.
He repeatedly stated that we have a right to medical care and I am not denying that but not once did he say where that right came from. Is it a God-given right? He did not say. Is it a right that was granted by an act of congress? Again he did not explain. So, I have no way of knowing how we came to have that right but there can be no doubt that we have it.
In his lengthy discussion he didn’t say anything about free medical care but nowhere in his argument did he suggest that anyone should have to pay for their own care and I am sure that he is right. After all, if we had to contribute to our own health care, we might not have enough cash or credit left to have a smart phone or an i-pod. Contributing to our own healthcare could deprive us of our right to have satellite TV or beer. After all we have a constitutional right to the pursuit of happiness and beer makes me happy. Maybe I could buy a four-wheeler with that money and I could pursue a lot of other things too.
One of his stronger points is that government provides a lot of other things so why shouldn’t it provide health care? I have to admit that I was confused by his example of free education. All of those young people who are struggling to pay off student loans must have misunderstood something. But, aside from that, I have to agree that we are getting a lot of things free so why not make it a full plate and make everything free? Yes, by all means, we have a right to free healthcare, free birth control, free drug rehabilitation, free marijuana, and freedom to buy beer with free food stamps. After all, the government has lots of money and can always get more.
Also, government is so good at handling huge programs that it is the logical choice for managing universal healthcare. For example, look at the expert job our government has done regarding Social Security. That fund began as a trust fund that grew steadily until it there was so much money in the fund that we were told that it would never run short. Some of the excess was even buying government bonds to assist in funding the government. Somewhere between 1963 and 1969 the president brilliantly decided that he could balance his budget by including the Social Security fund in the general fund. Other government agencies immediately began dipping into the Social Security fund for extra cash and soon rectified that ridiculous notion of having a fund that was more than adequate. Consequently, the Social Security fund is chronically on the verge of bankruptcy like all government agencies are supposed to be. If you consider that and the mess that medicare is in, you can readily see that the Federal government is the logical choice to manage all such programs.
If some of you are thinking I am being cavalier considering that our government is sixteen trillion dollars in debt, have no fear! All we have to do is tax those wealthy people.
